Frequently asked questions
We've had a WorkSafe inspection — what now?
Move quickly but sensibly: we conduct a formal risk assessment, prioritise the genuinely dangerous items, and deliver a staged remediation program with documentation that shows WorkSafe you're acting. We've walked many Victorian manufacturers through exactly this.
What is AS/NZS 4024 and does it apply to us?
It's Australia's machine safety standard series (26 parts, 2019 edition). If your people work with powered machinery, it applies. It covers risk assessment, guarding, interlocks and safety control systems.
Do old machines have to comply?
The duty to provide a safe workplace applies regardless of machine age. Old machines can almost always be brought to an acceptable risk level with guarding, interlocks and safety circuit upgrades — usually far cheaper than replacement.
Do collaborative robots need safety systems too?
Yes. 'Collaborative' doesn't mean exempt — payload, speed and tooling determine the required controls. Every cobot installation needs a documented risk assessment; we design and validate these in-house.
Can you do the safety upgrade without stopping production?
Mostly, yes — we stage work around production windows, weekends and shutdowns, exactly as we do for switchboard changeovers. Minimising downtime is the family trade.
