Frequently asked questions
Is robotic welding viable for small batch sizes?
Yes — this changed with cobot welding. Quick jigs, parameter libraries and easy programming make batches of ten viable, not just production runs of thousands. Rockpress runs a jobbing fabrication shop, not a production line.
Do we need a dedicated programmer?
No. Modern cobot welding interfaces are designed for welders, not programmers — we train your team, and most shops are self-sufficient within weeks. For industrial cells we provide offline programming support.
What welding processes can be automated?
MIG/MAG is the workhorse; we also deliver TIG and spot welding cells. Process choice, torch package (Kemppi/Fronius) and positioner configuration all come out of the initial assessment of your parts.
What does a welding cell cost and what's the payback?
Cobot welding cells typically start around $100k–$180k installed; industrial cells with positioners range higher. With welder shortages and rework costs, multi-shift shops commonly see 12–24 month payback — we'll model it with your job data.
Can you handle the fume extraction and electrical work?
Yes — we're a Registered Electrical Contractor with our own mechanical team, so power, extraction integration, guarding and controls are all part of our scope, not someone else's.
