The challenge
Rockpress (Rocklea Pressed Metal), a steel fabricator operating since 1972, faced the problem every Australian fab shop knows: skilled welders are scarce, production welding is repetitive and fatiguing, and consistency across long runs is hard to hold.
The solution
We delivered a UR10-based collaborative welding cell — sized for their jobbing work, programmable by their own team, and deployed without reorganising the workshop. Six months later, the results justified a second, larger cell: the two now run independently or in tandem depending on the job.
The results
- 40% productivity increase measured after the first robot
- Repetitive-strain and fatigue injuries designed out of production welding
- Welders upskilled into programming and quality control roles
- Client verdict: "The gains are obvious — and we have improved in all areas."
